ESPN's Walton admits on air that network spies on its viewers through their TV's
"One of the great new technologies we have here at ESPN is that we can look at you in your house through your TV!", bragged ESPN's Bill Walton.
Sports fans hoping to see a college basketball game Saturday evening between the Arizona Wildcats and the USC Trojans got more than just a game.
Instead, the broadcaster, Bill Walton, told the ESPN audience that the network was snooping on them in their living rooms through their television without a warrant.
ESPN showed viewers the family of Arizona player, Dusan Ristic. They live in Serbia. No mention was made as to whether they had permission from the Ristic family to show them on air.
ESPN, owned by ABC, has lost 38 per cent of its audience in the last three years. More layoffs are anticipated.
Smart TVs have cameras embedded within their viewing screens. Companies, government agencies, and hackers can see and hear what you do in your home. Sometimes, the hacking can be done even when your television is turned off.
