Chicago suburb's gun ban passed Monday includes handguns and shotguns in definition of "assault weapons"
The Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois passed an eleven-page gun ban on Monday. The ban includes handguns and shotguns. Their Mayor, Harriet Rosenthal, said the law was to ban "assault weapons." She is pictured above.
The fine print in the law says Deerfield "shall" ban any gun or weapon as long as they call it an "assault weapon". It also gives police the right to confiscate and destroy them.
Page Five, section seven, of the Ordinance says the ban, "Shall include, but not be limited to" a list of 50 named "assault weapons models". It includes "but it not limited to", ten named handguns in 7 (B), and four shotguns cited in 7 (C).
