The last four defendants are highlighted in yellow in the flow chart at the end of this story. They are former Pilot Flying J executives:

  • President Mark Hazelwood (top slightly left of center)
  • V.P. of National Accounts Scott Wombold (top left under the date)
  • Regional Sales Representative Heather Jones (bottom second photo to the left
  • Regional Sales Representative Karen Mann (bottom left of center under the word "Pilot")

They are accused of conspiracy, fraud, and witness tampering.

CEO Jimmy Haslam is innocent, according to his attorney, Aubrey B. Harwell Jr., of Nashville. No charges were filed against Haslam and none are anticipated said Harwell.

John "Stick" Freeman has been granted immunity in the case pending the outcome of this trial. Freeman's photo is highlighted in red, at the top right. He has plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud. He faces up to 20 years in the big house and a $250,000 fine.

Freeman's sentencing is scheduled for January 24th.

Vince Greco and Cathy Giesek were granted full immunity. Their pictures are highlighted in blue. They are expected to testify against the defendants.

The lead prosecutors for the U .S. Department of Justice is Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Lewin and Trey Hamilton. The lead for the defense is criminal attorney, Rusty Hardin, of Houston, Texas. The trial judge is Curtis L. Collier of the U.S. Federal District Court of Eastern Tennessee, Chattanooga.

Judge Collier has limited each defendant to seat one lead attorney during the trial because courtroom space is limited.

Judge Collier said, “Our courtroom was built in 1933. In 1933, we did not try cases of this size.”
