"The best catch I ever saw" in Major League Baseball
So said Rick Manning, Cleveland Indians (baseball) TV broadcaster for Fox Sports Ohio (FSO) and former Gold Glove winner as the best center fielder in baseball (1976).
Austin Jackson, the Tribe's Center Fielder, made the catch.
Jackson ran 40 yards from left to right center field, jumped, and caught the ball while crashing into the point of the right center field fence. The collision flipped Jackson upside down only inches from the ground. Jackson held onto the ball. His right arm grabbed the fence, preventing him from hitting the ground head first.
Hanley Ramirez of the Red Sox, was robbed of a home run. All he could say was, "Wow!"
The Red Sox won the game, 12-10. The game was played last night in Boston.
Bob Costas, who called the game on the Major League Baseball (MLB) Television Channel, said it was, "The game of the year", and "One of the best ever".
