Margaret Cole Hughes, 74, of 6731 County Line Road, Williamsfield, Ohio in Ashtabula County.
She will be sentenced for fraud and conspiracy on May 27th at 9 a.m. by Cleveland Federal District Judge James Gwin.

Unless she changes her plea before then to “not guilty”.
Prosecutors have asked for the maximum sentence of:
ten years in jail
restitution of unspecified value
maximum fines of $500,000
Federal Bureau of Prisons’ jail processing fees of $200
Maggie’s five-day trial was supposed to begin Wednesday.
Instead, she copped a plea on Feb. 3rd, a week before her trial was to begin.

Two of Maggie’s co-workers have also pleaded guilty in the European Adoption Consultants (EAC) criminal case.
They were EAC co-conspirators who were scheduled to testify against Cole Hughes starting Wednesday.
By ratting on their boss, they hope to reduce their sentences scheduled to start next month.

When Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine was its Attorney General, he filed a lawsuit to recover adoption fees for those who were cheated out of their money.
The result?
DeWine was unable to find any:
claimants
children
proof of 8000 international adoptions
His office was able to recover $260,000 out of $200 million that defense attorneys said was collected by Marilyn Cole Hughes for international adoptions.
Subpoenas for financial records were issued to two local banks:
KeyBank
Huntington Bank
However, most of the money was passed through Strongsville Savings Bank, which was bought out by Fifth Third.
Their records were never subpoenaed.
Without claimants, the money went to the General Fund of the State of Ohio.
Margaret Cole Hughes paid a penalty of $39,000.
