Warrants authorized by federal judges are up 30 per cent from the year before, according to a report issued today.

It was written by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Federal Courts on behalf of the Federal Judiciary. It is called the "Wiretap Report 2017".

Over ten years, warrants are up 73 per cent.

The report acknowledged that FISA warrants were excluded from its information. FISA is the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

It also noted that ten of the 94 federal court districts failed to submit warrant information. A list of these court districts were never mentioned in the report.

According to other federal court reports, the number of FISA warrants were:

  • 1,147 in 2017
  • 1,378 in 2016
  • 836 in 2015
