Putin never supported Maria Butina or her "Right to Bear Arms" group

Russian President Vladmir Putin (pictured above) has never supported Maria Butina's activities, according to Radio Free Europe.

President Putin has never objected to Butina’s arrest or demanded her release. She has been arrested by being a Russian spy.

Miss Butina's organization, "The Right to Bear Arms" was dissolved in March.

A state supported group would have continued to receive money to keep it open.

President Putin has never supported gun ownership for Russia's citizens.

In fact, Putin formed a new "National Guard" to control firearms and "to limit the circulation of weapons in the country."

It is legal for Russian citizens to own weapons for self-defense. They include long-barreled shotguns, gas pistols and stun guns. Handguns and assault weapons are illegal.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev called guns a danger to society.

"The rules that exist in the United States are absolutely unacceptable for Russia or even for the United States itself," he said. It is "impossible to justify" a person's right to own a gun.

Only 80 persons came to one of Butina's "Right to Bear Arms" events in Moscow.

Any Russian can own a shotgun with a permit. Once approved, gun owners are subject to home inspection without notice.

Since 2011, Miss Butina has believed in individual gun ownership.
