Makarenko was arrested a second time on New Year’s Eve.

He was sent to a federal detention center in Hawaii.

His reward?

  • one-year probation without supervision (non-reporting)

  • kept a thousand rounds of military-grade primers used in sniper bullets worth $100,000

  • maintained his status as a U.S. citizen

How did that happen?

Ask Judge Marcia Gail Cooke.

As part of the plea deal made last week, Makarenko:

  • paid a $40,000 fine

  • paid a $100 court assessment

  • returned the night vision goggles and other sniper gear received illegally in Russia

Dmitrii’s attorneys objected to the pre-sentence report.

They recommended a prison term of ten to 16 months.
